March Event Recap: Learning the Anatomy of a Fly Rod with Andrew Mysyk of Temple Fork Outfitters

On March 10th, the Calgary Women Fly Fishers Club hosted an insightful event at Prairie Dog Brewing, a family- and female-owned craft microbrewery in Calgary. The “Anatomy of a Fly Rod” session featured Andrew Mysyk from Temple Fork Outfitters (TFO), Calgary’s own local fly rod manufacturer. With over 20 years of experience, TFO shared their expertise on how the different components of a fly rod affect performance, from casting to fish fighting.

Prairie Dog Brewing provided the perfect venue, known for its inclusive atmosphere and commitment to local craftsmanship. This local touch echoed the theme of the evening, as Temple Fork Outfitters offers top-quality rods backed by an excellent warranty program, ensuring reliability and performance. TFO’s dedication to quality has earned them recognition, including praise from the legendary Lefty Kreh, who called TFO’s engineer Bill Sherck "the finest rod engineer they ever worked with."

A highlight of the evening was a tribute to Lefty Kreh, celebrating his legacy in the fly fishing world. TFO has put together a collection of tribute videos, which can be viewed here.

We’re grateful to Andrew Mysyk for his expert instruction, to Prairie Dog Brewing for hosting, and to everyone who joined us. Don’t forget, club members get exclusive discounts, so be sure to check your membership card for a promo code. Thanks for making the event a success—we look forward to more opportunities to learn, connect, and support local businesses!
