FISHING IN THE AREA
There are plenty of fishing opportunities in the area, whether you're into lakes or rivers! Here are some nearby spots:

Lakes:

  • Phyllis Lake: Just minutes west of the campground, home to small Rainbows that love small dry flies or leeches.
  • Beaver Lake: 9 minutes south, known for large Rainbow and Tiger Trout. Effective patterns include chironomids, leeches, minnows, and terrestrials.
  • Dickson Trout Pond: 27 minutes east, where the Red Deer River enters Gleniffer Lake. Expect Rainbows, Pike, and occasional Tiger Trout.
  • Birch, Alford, Swan, Strubel, and Cow Lakes
  • Burnstick Lake: A larger lake not suited for a float tube but home to cheeky little Perch that enjoy small gold scud patterns.

Rivers and Creeks:

  • The bigger rivers (Clearwater, Tay, Red Deer) should be in excellent condition after spring run-off. Note: last year, there was a mama bear and cub living at the old (closed) campground buildings on the Tay River, so be cautious in that area.
  • The creeks (Prairie, Mud) are typically in good shape in July and usually fish well with small dries or emergers (caddis), nymphs, and leeches.

Campfire Time:
Every evening, we'll gather around the campfire starting around 7:30-8:00 p.m. to unwind, get to know each other, and plan for the next day's adventures. It's the perfect time to swap fishing stories  (how big was that fish??) connect with potential fishing buddies.

Important Note: Space is limited, so make sure to register early to guarantee your spot! This will be a fantastic weekend to connect with other members, enjoy some outdoor activities, and relax in a peaceful setting.
